This morning when I wake up, the day started as usual, nothing special just the usual routine, except there was some rain outside. While having coffee and checking my Facebook feed, I came across a post about the MMDA No Contact Apprehension Policy. There was this guy complaining that he received a paper notice at his residential address, but when he checked the MMDA apprehension checker website, there was no violation under his vehicle.
I thought if I have a violation too, I thought to check. I opened my laptop earlier than usual to start my usual work routine.
Naturally, my work routine flow and zoning starts with going to Hacker News to read some interesting articles. Usually, I will stop reading once I came across something that makes me think or reflect then I will absorb it for a bit. Then I will move on to local news. The same pattern, I will read articles until I found something gross or fascinating enough that I need to stop again and just absorb it.
Then finally, I found myself on the MMDA Apprehension website. The site was asking for a plate number AND MV file number. Hudas knows or memorizes their MV file number?!
I figured Gmail probably knows everything about me, I may have emails related to my car’s ORCR or insurance emails that have the MV file number. So I needed to check my email. I opened my inbox and saw a couple of unread emails from COL Financial, something about dividends and someone’s future outlook.
And just like that, my brain got distracted again. I searched about dividends and compound interest, and suddenly, I was knee deep in compounding calculators and found myself googling Warren Buffett quotes like they were horoscopes:
"My wealth has come from a combination of
living in America
some lucky genes, and
compound interest."
I closed all tabs. It had been 2 hours, and my MV file number was still unsearch. Well, at least now I know about the long term benefits of compounding, and that there’s a famous ramen place near my place…
Trying to regroup, I then started start my usual work, open my work email, check Jira, Notion and Obsidian, then I remembered that I need to log my Jira timesheets, I opened Harvest to check my tracked time for the previous days.
My default browser for everything I trusted is Firefox, I used Chrome for Google Maps and some extensions that only work there. I used Edge for Slack, because for some reason, my bluetooth mic only works properly there for Slack, plus I use it for Harvest and other test scenarios. When I opened Edge to check for my Harvest, Edge usually opened with MSN suggested local and global stories for you, I found an interesting news about PH senators positioning on their usual political bloc. And all of a sudden I am on search for reading this and going down the rabbit hole.
I opened five tabs, closed none, and discovered everything except what I originally needed. But maybe productivity isn’t linear after all? hmmmm.
Wait, what was I doing again?!
